Lessons from Internship

Lessons and reflections as an intern Teacher for Mathematics and Science.

Even though my experience has taught me a lot about how to work as an effective teacher, I always seek learning opportunities to become an effective teacher.

Out of many, the following sessions were inspiring and insightful for me in my Postgraduate programme.

'If you can't bring the child to the world, then bring the world to them.'

My experience as an intern teacher of mathematics and science from the

Year 5 to the Year 10 classes were an eye-opening experience. This opportunity provided me with new lessons to learn and a new lens to observe and work with teachers and learners in an international setting and IGCSE school.

Getting the opportunity to assist the teachers provided me with the opportunity to understand classroom engagement, teaching techniques, usage of digital technology, differentiated learning as well as supporting students of diverse levels. Likewise, combined with my previous experience, while teaching and interacting with students, I received remarkable feedback from the supervisor teachers. I will treasure that as it has helped me to learn how can I practice being a better and more effective teacher.

It would have been better if I were able to get more internship opportunities in different schools and learn about different international curriculums.

This session was another approach to co-working with my other colleagues, Mr George Gatsios and Ms Pham Bao Thanh Huyen from different subjects. We turned our class trip experience to the Japanese Garden in Hasselt into a fun-filled learning activity for our teaching session.
My previous experiential classes were on-site but this time, I learned to bring from the site to the classroom.
In addition to that, this session is also the integration of different disciplines with the concept of S.T.E.A.M.

Online Learning

It is not the next big thing,
it is the NOW big thing!

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected different aspects of society globally. Like many areas of our social life, the pandemic has also led to a major change in the education systems. While few governments had already developed remote and hybrid forms of education prior to the pandemic, many were not ready.

As a student and also as a teacher, I learned that it is not only about good Internet connection. As every time, new digital tools, software and hardware are emerging, getting acquainted with them is also equally important. Likewise, engaging and interacting between the teacher and the students is also a necessary skill even in the online setting.
